Pushkar Camel Fair

Pushkar is also popular for hosting one of the most colorful fairs of Rajasthan - the Pushkar Camel Fair. It coincides with the bright half of the moon during the months of October-November. From time immemorial, people have been gathering here annually during the month of Kartik to pray to Lord Brahma. The Pushkar Camel Fair is known for its hospitable people with colorful veils turbaned heads and colorfully dyed skirts. The cold nights are warmed with the sounds of ektara and the soulful tunes of the Rajasthani folk songs.

The Savitri Temple (dedicated to Goddess Savitri, the wife of Lord Brahma), the Mahadeva Temple (built of white marble depicting Mahadeva with five faces), Rangji Temple (dedicated to Vishnu), Varaha Temple (dedicated to Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu), and Man Mahal (built by Raja Man Singh of Amber) are other notable tourist attractions of Pushkar. The Pushkar Bazaar is also famous for shopping options.

Pushkar Getting There

The best time for holidays in Pushkar is during the winter months from October to mid-March, although the flow of travelers to Pushkar increases exceptionally during the time of the Pushkar fair.

Pushkar is 11 kilometers northwest of Ajmer, which is located west of Jaipur. Ajmer is well connected with Jaipur and Delhi by road and rail. The easiest way to get to the city is to fly to Jaipur and then drive down to Pushkar, which is the site of the fair.
