Landmark/Attraction. By cruisingindia.com on May 23, 2006.

Perhaps the best known and the busiest city square in Mumbai, Hutatma Chowk in Mumbai, (which means "Martyr's Square") was formerly called Flora Fountain. Hutatma Chowk is located in the busy financial district of South Mumbai. It derives its present name from an incident in 1960 when a peaceful demonstration by the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti was fired upon by the police resulting in some deaths. The incident led to the formation of the present State of Maharashtra. The Hutatma Chowk square is lined on all sides by buildings constructed during the British Raj. An ornate fountain surrounded by delicately carved figures forms the center of the huge square. Hence the name Flora Fountain.
