Mahabaleshwar, means God of Great Strength. Established as a health resort in 1829, Mahabaleshwar today is regarded as the queen of Maharashtra’s Hill Stations. Mahabaleshwar is an evergreen vast plateau with long beautiful roads, both walkable and good for horse rides & with long foot paths along forest. Mahabaleshwar lies in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra around lake Venna, which is a very popular destination for boating. It is a vast green plateau of about 150 sq. kms which is about 4500 feet above sea level. Mahabaleshwar has always a moderate temperature; it is never too hot because of the height and never too cold because of the nearness to the Arabian Sea. The best season to visit Mahabaleshwar is around October till December. Hotels cater to the tourist round the year including the rainy seasons.

Mahabaleshwar is full of mansions and cottages and bunglows build around the town by the British during their reign. There are around 30 valley view points spread around the hill stations , these are excellent areas for leisurely walks and to enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty. Mahabaleshwar has strong historical connections with Shivaji, the heroic Marathas warrior king. The various other places of interests include Mount Malcom, Catholic Church, Mahabaleshwar Club, Morarji castle, and Pratapgadh fort.

Some of the famous points in Mahabaleshwar are Wilson point, Connaught peak , Elephantine point, Marjorie point, castle rock, Polo ground and bee keeping center. Its a big tourist attraction because it has developed well to keep the tourist engaged by day as well as night. You can enjoy, boating, horse riding, trekking and even go karting
during the day  and pool and, video games, slot machines by night.

Mahabaleshwar is famous for honey & chikki (a local specialty)and for fruits like strawberries, raspberries, goose berries & mulberries. It is also famous for vegetables like red potatoes; french beans, beets, salad, carrots, and radishes.

Mahabaleshwar Getting There and Around

Mahabaleshwar is well connected by air, rail and road. Pune is the nearest airport and the nearest railway station is Wathar which is 62 km away, but Pune is the more convenient one. By road Mahabaleshwar is around 300 km from Mumbai. The State transport buses are available from Mumbai and Pune to Mahabaleshwar. Also MTDC buses operate on a daily basis except during monsoon.
