Lonavala is located on the western part of the state of Maharashtra in the Sahyadri hills. The oldest story of this hill station is that it was an important Buddhist site in the 2nd B.C. The region was under the reign of the great Maratha king Shivaji, it didn’t have much historical importance. Lonavala was later taken over by the Peshwas, who were in turn defeated in a very gruesome war by the British.
