A beautiful specimen of mordern architecture, the ISKON temple stands like a jewel on Hari Krishna Hill. ISKON stands for International Society For Krishna Consciousness. The magnificent temple has sikharas, or peaks, at a height of ninety feet. The hall of the temple is centrally air-conditioned and can accommodate about one-thousand-five-hundred people at a time comfortably. A very popular Delhi thing to do, the ISKON temple can get extremely crowded on the weekends. The temple is showered with paintings of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, Radha Krishna, and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, all made by Russian artists. The temple remains open from 4.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then in the evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Special programs like the kirtan (singing of religious hymns), aarti (the lighting of lamps to worship a God), pravachan (sermons) and prasadam (the preparing and offering of food to God), are held every Sunday between 12 noon to 3 p.m.
